CBSE will introduce Indian Sign Language or Braille as one of the subjects to students with special needs. The board has sought feedback from stakeholders and states regarding the new guidelines for the children with special needs.
The CBSE or Central Board of Secondary Education is planning to introduce sign language and Braille as subjects for students with special needs. Apart from these new subjects, CBSE is planning to implement flexible subject options, attendance waivers, and computer-based test to students with special needs. At present, the board is in the process of formulating comprehensive guidelines for students with special needs. If the competent authorities approve these guidelines, CBSE will officially notify the new facilities and changes introduced for students with special needs.
As per sources, CBSE has made a proposal stating that children with special needs must be given exemptions from the existing eligibility criteria of two or one compulsory languages in the board exams. Instead of compulsory languages, Braille or Indian Sign Language should be treated as a language to satisfy the eligibility criteria prescribed by the board. The board has been framing the guidelines in this regard, and the revised eligibility criteria for the students with special needs will be notified soon.

One of the top officials of CBSE informed that the board would create online course content for children/ students with mobility issues. The board will waive attendance norms for the children with severe disabilities, he added.
The board has sought feedback from stakeholders and states regarding the new guidelines for the children with special needs. These guidelines were prepared after holding consultations with experts.
