Some of the central universities in India will hold the first convocation ceremony this year. Central universities in Gujarat,Jharkhand and Allahabad did not hold convocation ceremony after gaining the status of a central university. Apart from these universities, all the 40 central universities in India will hold formal convocation ceremonies where graduating students will be awarded degrees.
Recently, President of India, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind informed the University Grants Commission (UGC) to direct central universities to hold convocation ceremonies annually. The HRD Ministry also informed the universities on the same. Responding to the direction, all the central universities have submitted a final schedule. Over 12 varsities have confirmed the dates while the rest have notified the month in which the convocation ceremony is expected to take place.

Already, Central University of Kashmir organized convocation ceremony on July 04, 2018. Jawaharlal Nehru University will hold the second convocation ceremony on August 08, 2018, while the Central University of Orissa will organize convocation ceremony in December. Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University has confirmed that it would host the convocation ceremony on December 01, 2018.

The issue regarding convocation ceremony was taken up during VCs meet. The President of India had asked the central varsities to submit the schedule for the convocation ceremony. He explained that convocation is an important part of students’ place, and it is a ceremony where parents recognize the achievement of their children.
