Centre of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Unveiled at College of Engineering and Technology

Bhubaneswar’s College of Engineering and Technology witnesses establishment of the new Centre of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence (AI). An MoU has been signed between Tech Mahindra and the College to offer 30 students from the college exposure to the world of AI and IoT.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled the Center of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the College of Engineering and Technology Bhubaneswar (CET-B) on 23rd December 2019. The CoE has been established by the college in partnership with Tech Mahindra to conduct research on different issues faced by industries and develop software programmes as solutions for the same.

A Memorandum of Understanding had been signed by both the IT giant and the College of Engineering and Technology. As per the MoU, 30 students will be chosen to work on various aspects in the field, under the supervision of experts from the industry.

Sources have stated that graduates or professionals, trained in the sector, will be offered jobs in Government and Non-Government organisations, both nationally and internationally. Along with competent development in the area of Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT), the Centre will also focus on taking up research initiatives in the upcoming industry.

As per the statement of CET-B Principal, Prashant Kumar Patra, the 30 students under MoU have already been shortlisted to work under the CoE. He added that the students will be working in the industry under CoE for a span of one year, developing and designing software solutions to various real-world obstacles. For the entire span of one year, the 30 students will also be offered a stipend, the Principal added.

Furthermore, the Principal also announced that a patent will be filed for each of the innovations that have been developed under the guidance of the CoE. Apart from the academic assistance, the Centre will also aid the College to gain a reputation among the engineering AI and IoT aspirants, especially in research and development projects, Patra added. The Centre will also allow the College to earn revenue through developmental projects on software programmes and AI.

The premier engineering college in Bhubaneswar, home to over 4,000 students in both graduate and post-graduate programmes, has also witnessed the establishment of a new auditorium capable of seating 2000 students. An e-learning centre in the Central Library has also been set up at the College.
