The vice-chancellor of Patna University (PU) Mr. Y.C. Simhadri has announced that a UGC's Centre for Women's Studies would open at the function organized by the Patna University history department at the Darbhanga House.
The centre would be 1st of its kind in the state and would serve as an independent entity at the university with its focus on the academics, training and advocacy, research and the dissemination of knowledge and field action projects. The centre would also focus on the paradigm shift in 'socialization' and reach out to the society to bridge the gap between the men and the women confront these days. The vice chancellor Mr. Simhadri also said 'It would also play an interventionist role for policymaking implementation'.
The University Grants Commission has sanctioned a grant of Rs31 lakh per year for running the centre. At least 6 teachers and a few technical staff are supposed to be appointed for the centre. The Vice Chancellor also emphasized the need of such centres for creating the awareness about empowering women and gender issues.
