Chennai: IIT-M, VelTech Train Students for Competitive Exams
While most of the schools in the state are busy conducting extra classes for the Class 12 students to prepare them for board examinations, higher educational institutions are working towards sharpening the skills of the students and teachers. They are conducting workshops and training sessions which equip students for exam preparation and identification of potential subjects for higher studies as well as career opportunities.
For instance, Vel Tech University is conducting motivational classes for class 11 and class 12 students to enable the candidates handle questions in a stipulated time. The varsity is also training the students by playing video clips where subject experts give tips on cracking the paper. The officials have taken up various creative activities to boost students’ confidence.
Vani Murugesan, Manager, Digital Marketing, Vel Tech revealed that teachers would be trained in active learning methodologies so that they can help and teach students in a better way. The teachers are taught subjects like Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
On the other hand, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras is also training students of class 11 to gear up for class 12. The institute has been conducting various workshops to enlighten the students with respect to their career.
Similarly, SASTRA University has been conducting awareness camps and teaching training, especially in government schools. The varsity has taken up an extensive campaign to create awareness about various competitive exams and careers. On the other hand, the varsity is carrying out teacher training programmes in 3,000 government schools further creating awareness on the use of technology. The institute is also conducting coaching class for JEE for about 40 students.
