It seems like core sector has ruled the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi this placement season. The placements began on December 1, 2016, and so far, 70% of the students bagged jobs in core sector which include mechanical, civil, computer science, electrical, electronics and communication engineering mainly. Students received more than 500 offers in the first six days, i.e., between December 1 to December 7, 2016. (IIT placements did not take place on 4th December as CAT was conducted on the same day.)
According to the information given by IIT Delhi, a total number of 20 students secured offers at an annual package of $100,000. This year, most of the students preferred domestic offers instead of international offers.
This year, the number of startups registered for placements is considerably less. The institute is looking forward to seeing some Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment. However, PSUs are keen to recruit students from IITs.
The pre-placement season took place at IIT-Delhi from August to November 2016 where the students took various tests. Similarly, the students were trained in interview skills, resume making, communication skills, problem-solving and presentation. On the other hand, students also took 25 mock placement tests.
