As a part of Deakin University’s continued commitment to research collaborations in India, the varsity has signed significant agreements with All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research). The agreement was signed in the esteemed presence of Union HRD Minister, Mr. Prakash Javadekar.
HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar was on an official visit to Australia. The main objective of the visit is to focus on enhancing education ties between Australia and India. The signing of agreements took place at a Roundtable conference on Online Education organised at Deakin Downtown. The event focused on exploring online education, increase confidence in QA, qualification recognition and highlight Australia’s experience in online education.

Deakin and AIIMS partnership will focus on research collaborations and faculty & student exchange programmes. The varsity will collaborate with AIIMS to enhance the overall research collaboration between the two institutes. Introducing joint Ph.D. programme is also one among the initiatives that will be taken up by both institutes. As far as research is concerned, the major focus area will be healthcare sector.
Deakin University’s agreement with JIPMER is considered as coutelle agreement. Both the institutes have collaborated to launch joint Ph.D. programme, the agreement for which was made in the year 2017. The major areas of cooperation are: -
- Joint workshops
- MBBS student exchange programme
- Knowledge exchange through webinars
- Study tours
- Faculty exchange programme
- Head and neck radiation oncology (PG course)
- Neurosurgical training (PG course)

Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University indicated that the varsity is ready to use its expertise and knowledge for enhancing research in the healthcare sector. The objective is to provide better healthcare services through various activities. The agreement will add a great potential for both Australia and India to benefit from a true exchange of healthcare ideas and learning, he expressed.
