DU Admission 2019: 10% Rise in Registrations Under PwD Category

There has been an increase of almost 10% in the number of registrations under the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category at the Delhi University for the 2019-20 academic year.

DU Admission 2019 has witnessed an increase of almost 10 per cent in the number of registrations for various undergraduate courses under the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category.

According to the reports, a total of 1665 students have registered under the PwD category for admission to undergraduate courses. For this academic year, twenty-one conditions are included under the PwD category.

The university took special measures to increase the number of PwD applicants to promote diversity. This academic year there has been an increase of almost 10 per cent as compared to last year. Bipin Tiwary of Equal Opportunity Cell of the Delhi University informed that the university is welcoming the persons with disabilities. He further informed that the university is taking special efforts to increase the number of PwD students.

DU received the maximum number of applications under the locomotor disability. As many as 480 students applied under the same followed by 366 visually challenges candidates and around 226 students from the low vision category.

As per the Right of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, at least 5 per cent seats are to be reserved for Persons with Disabilities. Also, PwD applicants will be given relaxation in the course-specific eligibility in the qualifying examination and will also get relaxation in the admission entrance test. The relaxation is around five per cent till all the seats are filled, as per the DU eligibility criteria.

DU admission 2019 for the upcoming academic year are going on the second cutoff list will be released on 4th July 2019.
