The latest development associated with Dyal Singh Evening College might spark protests and receive wide criticism from students and teachers. The Governing Body of Dyal Singh College has decided to rename the evening college as ‘Vande Mataram Mahavidyalaya’. The move will be implemented after the conversion of college into a morning college.
Chairperson of Governing Body, Mr. Amitabh Sinha revealed that the decision of renaming the college had been taken to pay obeisance to the motherland. It is the responsibility of every citizen of India to pay obeisance to his or her motherland, he added.
An official notification issued by Executive Council of the college stated that Dyal Singh Evening College would be transformed into a full-fledged day college. The Governing Body thought that a new and inspiring name to the college is essential. Therefore, the existing name of the college has been changed to ‘Vande Mataram Mahavidyalaya’.
The proposal to change the name of the college was passed unanimously. However, the decision taken by the Governing Council was not received positively by many. Responding to those who are protesting against the name change, Mr. Amitabh Sinha said that paying obeisance to the motherland is a positive move, and it is a sign of respect towards the nation.
‘Vande Mataram’ song inspired millions of people during the freedom struggle and it will inspire the students too. There is no scope for raising controversies and people who have been trying to protest must take it as a positive development, he added. There is no chance of reconsidering the decision regarding the name change, clarified by Mr. Amitabh.
