IGNOU Introduces Fashion Designing Certificate Course

Indira Gandhi National Open University’s School of Vocational Education and Training has introduced a Certificate Course in Fashion Designing to prepare aspirants for the job market. The certificate course can be taken up by 10+2 pass candidates.

IGNOU Introduces Fashion Designing Certificate Course

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced a new certificate course in Fashion Design. This new programme was launched by the School of Vocational Education and Training of IGNOU for the aspirants of Fashion Designing. The motive of the new certificate course is to prepare students for the job opportunities available in the apparel industry.

Those who have passed 10+2 (Senior Secondary) or Class 12 can apply for the course.

The certificate programme, which has been designed for a minimum of 6 months and maximum 2 years, will be offered in English language. The course will focus on teaching the basics of fashion, its fundamentals, scope of fashion designing in India and in foreign countries, fundamental and elementary knowledge of the textiles, usage and benefits of digital technology in Computer Aided Design (CAD), imparting skills of making patterns and techniques used in sewing and most importantly the skills of communication and entrepreneurship.

Through the certificate course in Fashion Designing, aspirants will be introduced to the retail sector and export industry where they can explore different job perspectives including assistant designers job profile. The certificate holders can also go on to become entrepreneurs. Those with a little knowledge of this industry will get a chance to learn more details regarding the pattern and sewing specifications.

According to the official statement released by IGNOU, the initiative will help the Government of India to achieve a target of US 300 billion through the textile exports by the end of 2024-25. The Government also aims to create approx 35 million job opportunities in this sector, which can only be catered with the proper professional training and not with the present system of formal training.
