IGNOU Loses St. Albert's College as a Study Centre

St. Albert’s College has decided not to let IGNOU i.e. Indira Gandhi National Open University use the college as a study centre anymore. The St. Albert’s College was being used as an IGNOU centre from the last 24 years but this sudden request from the college has put the authorities of IGNOU in distress. The college used to let IGNOU use the college as part of their social outreach program free of cost.

The centre was being used by 4000 students who are studying 50 different courses. The college says that the reason behind this decision is the increase in the number of activities and increase in the workload of teachers and staff which makes it impossible for them to run the study centre at the campus.

The Director of IGNOU said that it is not possible to run a centre anywhere, they have to maintain quality and have to ensure that the students have experienced faculty. According to the memorandum of understanding popularly known as MoU IGNOU signed with the college, IGNOU is paying for all the resources used.

Following are the details:

  • Amount paid for electricity and water- Rs. 1000
  • Amount paid per student for using computer facilities- Rs. 10
  • Amount paid per student for using the science lab for 15 days- Rs. 550
