The new Chairperson of IIM Kozhikode, Mr. A Vellayan hoped that the premier management institute will reach new heights in the next three years. He expressed his happiness that IIM Kozhikode has been ranked 6th in NIRF Rankings 2018 for Management. The government’s decision to grant more autonomy to IIMs will enable IIM Kozhikode to make an impact in certain specialisations, he added.
Expressing his views on IIM Act 2017, Mr. Vellayan pointed that the autonomy would enable the premier institute to attain standards and global excellence in the field of management. He directed the members of BoG and senior professors of the institute to look at the areas of specialisation for IIM Kozhikode for the present and the future.

Mr. Vellayan further pointed that the top management institutes across the globe are popular for their specialisation. For instance, Harvard Business School is popular for Business Strategy, Kellogg School of Management for Marketing and US-based Wharton School for Finance. Similarly, IIM Kozhikode is also planning to achieve global recognition in one specialisation, he added.
Giving more details, Mr. Vellayan indicated that the senior faculty of the institute identified a few specialised subjects such as Entrepreneurism, Artificial Intelligence and Analytics. Among these areas, IIM Kozhikode is aiming to make an impact, he explained.
According to Mr. Vellayan, the aim is to identify the specialisation and create a linkage. Since IIM Kozhikode is one among the IIMs that is competing for autonomy, it is necessary to figure out strengths and capabilities of the institute. It is not possible to compete with other IIMs unless IIM Kozhikode stands for something, he opined.

Chairperson of IIM Kozhikode further assured that the appointment of Director will be completed by June 2018. A committee has been constituted for this purpose, and an advertisement was published in all the leading newspapers. The Search Committee has already initiated the search process, and the appointment will be made as early as possible.
