Popular premier engineering institute in India – IIT Bombay and technological giant – IBM have announced that both the organisations would collaborate with the AI Horizons Network as a part of the multi-year collaboration. The purpose of this collaboration is to advance research in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). As a part of the collaboration, IIT Bombay will associate its world-class faculty and top graduate students with renowned AI scientists from IBM Research.
The team of researchers will investigate and figure out new techniques for knowledge representations across charts, graphs, documents, and other forms of multi-media content. This specific area of research will be crucial in helping to develop new AI applications in significant industries such as healthcare, retail and financial services, which depend heavily on multi-model and rich content.
IIT Bombay and IBM will also work together to advance the field of training and building domain-specific AI Chatbots (AI Agents). These Chatbots will help humans in complex decision-making such as making investment and trading choices in financial services. Both organisations will explore new training approaches that could enable faster and more efficient training of AI systems.
Senior Vice-President of IBM Research, Mr. Arvind Krishna revealed that IBM has always been at the forefront of research advances in technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain. IBM Research has strong academic collaborations with leading higher learning institutes in India. The collaboration with IIT Bombay will accelerate the pace of innovation for AI technologies in India, he highlighted.
IIT Bombay Director, Professor Devang Khakhar indicated that the collaboration would help IIT Bombay faculty to associate with researchers across the globe on the frontiers of AI focusing in industrially relevant problems. The institute is expecting a fruitful collaboration that will make a significant impact on the field, he hoped.
