Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, which has been playing a crucial in developing more than 100 technology-based entrepreneurs, has launched a programme that helps technical institutes to cultivate a startup ecosystem. IIT Bombay's Society of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE) has initiated the programme through which the engineering colleges will be encouraged to promote entrepreneurship and set up incubation centres.
Recently, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay conducted a four-day course on innovation, incubation and entrepreneurship. Around 30 participants from various technical institutes across the country attended the programme.

Giving details about the programme, Milind Atrey, Professor-in-charge for Society of Innovation and Entrepreneurship revealed that some colleges have come forward to establish incubation centres while others intend to in the coming time. On the other hand, some colleges that have incubation centres are not able to make use of it in an effective way. Therefore, IIT Bombay has launched the initiative that bridges the gap for such institutes and helps them figure out solutions to their problems.
Mr. Atrey further indicated that SINE is sharing its ideas and learning experiences for the benefit other institutes for the first time since its inception.

During the four-day course on entrepreneurship, incubation and innovation, the participants took part in intellectual sessions on technology trends, social entrepreneurship and property. As a part of the course, the participants were given a clear understanding of government schemes that promote entrepreneurship.
SINE was established in the year 2004. Since its inception, around 103 startups have been incubated by SINE. These incubation centres are provided with support systems and physical infrastructure.
