The Central Government has appointed Mr. Subhasis Chaudhari as the Director of IIT Bombay. Subhasis Chaudhari is the recipient of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for excellence in research.
Artificial Intelligence researcher and Professor at Electrical Engineering Department of IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Bombay,Mr. Subhasis Chaudhari will soon assume the charge as new Director of IIT Bombay. The Central Government has appointed Subhasis Chaudhari as the new IIT Bombay Director, and he is expected to take over the charge on April 15, 2019. Subhasis Chaudhari will replace Devang Khakhar who served as IIT Bombay Director for two consecutive terms (2009-14 and 2014-19).
Subhasis Chaudhari will hold the office for the tenure of five years. So far, he has held several administrative positions in the institute such as Deputy Director of Academic and Infrastructural Affairs, Dean of International Relations, HOD of Electrical Engineering Department and Wardenship of Hostels. At present, Subhasis Chaudhari is holding Kamalnayan Bajaj Chair Professor at IIT Bombay.
Mr. Subhasis Chaudhari is the recipient of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for excellence in research. The professor is known for his work in varied fields such as Computational Haptics, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Image Processing, which fall under the domain of Artificial Intelligence. In all, Subhasis Chaudhari has been a key researcher in the area of Artificial Intelligence.

Subhasis Chaudhari pointed out that IIT Bombay has attained IoE (Institute of Eminence) status and proved its competence in research. Now, it is time for the premier institute to take research to the next level. IIT Bombay will try to connect better with industries to help graduates set up new ventures, he added.
