IIT Delhi has set up CERCA (Centre of Excellence for Research on Clean Air) with an aim to provide sustainable solutions to problems associated with air pollution in the Non-Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi. The officials of IIT Delhi explained that CERCA would undertake research in air pollution, which is one of the biggest problems in the city.
CERCA at IIT Delhi is a great platform for the faculty of IIT Delhi to undertake multi-disciplinary research projects with a major emphasis on studying, understanding and resolving the issues associated with air pollution.

The inauguration of CERCA took place on February 16, 2018. An alumnus of IIT Delhi, Mr. Arun Duggal agreed to extend financial support for research programmes that will be undertaken by CERCA.
CERCA will play a vital role in enhancing public understanding and public participation in promoting clean air initiatives. The centre will collaborate with the industry to get support related to clean air equipment and emission reduction initiatives. The primary research activities of CERCA will focus on prediction and assessment of air quality with the help of data attained from numerical models.

Apart from the capital city of India, all the major cities are facing severe issues due to air pollution. Lack of sustainable development and heavy usage of motor vehicles are the major reasons for the rapid growth of air pollution. Air pollution increases the carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere, which will have extreme consequences in future. Therefore, it is time for the researchers to come up with sustainable solutions to prevent air pollution.
