Indian Institute of Technology Goa is planning to introduce Ph.D. programme from this academic year. The institute just started with their online applications and received more than 1,000 requests from aspiring Ph.D. candidates. As of now, there are only 20 research scholar positions available at IIT Goa.
The institute will take in Ph.D. candidates in all three engineering streams in which they offer B.Tech programme - computer science, mechanical, and electrical. Aspirants can also take up the research in the subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, and humanities.

The Ph.D. programme will start from July 2018 in IIT Goa. The selection process for the same will include a written test and a personal interview round. The selected candidates will be eligible for a monthly stipend of Rs 25,000 from the government of India.
Barad Kant Mishra, Director, IIT Goa, said that the institute decided to start the Ph.D. programmes as they have faculty members who can act as research guides. He also informed the authorities that the institute is receiving an overwhelming response. They have already received 350 applications for mechanical engineering itself. However, the institute can only take in 20 Ph.D. students as per the availability of hostel facility.

The institute is currently functional from there temporary campus within the Goa Engineering College. They are working on their infrastructure and at present, the girl's hostel worth Rs. 40 crore is under construction.
