The conference, named as 'Engineering meets evolution: Designing biological systems’ will be conducted for 3 days and is jointly organised by IIT Madras, Initiative for Biological Systems Engineering (IBSE), and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras is going to host an international conference which will be based on the domain of bioengineering and synthetic biology. The conference, named as 'Engineering meets evolution: Designing biological systems’ will be conducted for 3 days and is jointly organised by IIT Madras, Initiative for Biological Systems Engineering (IBSE), and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). The main aim of the international conference is to discuss the various challenges, share the ideas and experiences in context to bioengineering and synthetic biology.

Professor Mahesh Panchagnula, the Dean of International and Alumni Relations at IIT Madras tried to emphasise on the international collaboration which led them to organise a strong conference meet in IIT Madras. He stated that it is an immense pleasure for us that EMBO and IBSE are collaborating with us to organise a conference on synthetic biology. He further stated that Life Science is emerging as an inflexion point which promises to incur outcome improvement. The conference to be hosted will lead us closer to that goal.
The Group Leader of Molecular Environmental Microbiology Laboratory, National Centre for Biotechnology (CNB), Spain, Dr Victor de Lorenzo addressed 'Thinking big: engineering SynBio interventions on a global scale’ with some of the effective keynotes. He said that if we improve the environmental microbiome, integrating it with synthetic biology, it can help us effectively fight the rapid climate change on earth.

The international conference at IIT Madras is set to be organised until February 1. Through the conference, some of the best researchers, leading scientists, and first stage scholars would be sharing their ideas & experience and discussing issues related to bioengineering and synthetic biology.
