A total of 211 students graduated at the IIT Mandi 6th convocation ceremony. The graduates included 29 Ph.D. scholars, 11 M.S. 28 M.Sc. (Chemistry), 11 M.Sc. Mathematics, 20 MTech. and 112 B.Tech. students.
IIT Mandi, Himachal Pradesh held its 6th convocation ceremony on 29th October 2018. A total of 211 students graduated from the prestigious institute and many eminent personalities attended the event. Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi appreciated IIT Mandi, which emerged as a major/ premier centre for engineering education and research. Director of IIT Mandi, Mr. Timothy A. Gonslaves read the message of PM Modi. According to PM Modi, IIT Mandi has been successful in fulfilling the aspirations of the people in the region. Being one of the youngest IITs in the country, IIT Mandi has been successful in meeting the requirements of the industry, appreciated by PM Modi.
Out of 211 students, 29 were Ph.D. scholars, 112 B.Tech, 20 M. Tech, 28 M.Sc. (Chemistry) and 11 M.S. students. As per the records, the number of research scholars has gone up to 40 from 31 last year.
The Chief Guest address was delivered by Padma Shri Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, IIT Madras. He congratulated the students and highlighted the fact that they are fortunate enough to graduate at a time when the nation is growing stronger and there are many excellent opportunities available for them.
Professor at IIT Madras, Padma Shri Ashok Jhunjhunwala revealed that IIT Mandi had done a commendable job in the area of energy-storage to enable renewable to emerge as the dominant source of energy for the nation and the world. Students could expect a fossil-free future, which is the only option that Earth will have in the future. More of the electric vehicles in India are expected to function through electric energy by 2030, he added.

Students should use their knowledge and skills to make a difference. Robotics, nano-materials and 3D manufacturing are a part of our technology today and students can make use of it to transform society.
Director, Mr. Timothy Gonslaves, presented the annual report of IIT Mandi. At present, 1,276 students are pursuing different courses at IIT Mandi. As far as placements 2017-18 concerned, 58 companies took part in the campus placement offers and recruited students. Among the major recruiters, 83% were core companies. On the other hand, IIT Mandi researchers published 292 peer-reviewed articles in 2017-18, revealed by Mr. Timothy Gonslaves.
IIT Mandi has established itself as a premier engineering institute in a very short span of time. It has become a fully residential campus with all research facilities and academic opportunities for students.
Meanwhile, the current year witnessed a significant increase in the total funding and sponsored research projects. As of now, the sanctioned amount is Rs.80 crore and 182 projects have been sanctioned.

The faculty of IIT- Mandi has also taken a step forward as they visited institutions and universities in North America, South Asia, Europe, Latin America and Australia in 2017-18. They also paid a visit to TU9 institutions in Germany this year as a part of BMBF-IIT Mandi Faculty exchange program.
