IIT Roorke to Institutionalize Courses on Stainless & Advanced Crabon Steel

The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee associates with Jindal Stainless to include elective courses on Stainless and Advanced Carbon Steel.

IIT Roorke to Institutionalize Courses on Stainless & Advanced Crabon Steel

Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee has entered into an association with one of the biggest steel plants of India - Jindal Stainless, which would lead the college to include an elective course on stainless steel and special carbon steel.

The course is supposed to comprise the study of stainless steel in detail which includes the uniqueness of various grades, determination of life cycle cost- benefit analysis, forming and behavioural characteristics and will help the student to get a well-informed overview on the range of usage of these metals. The course is to commence in July 2019. On this occasion of amalgamation, the Director of IIT Roorkee said that the Institute is pleased to enter into a long term association with Jindal Stainless on institutionalising course dealing with the detailed study of steel. The students will be able to get wonderful practical exposure which is much necessary for the engineering students.

The Managing Director of Jindal Steel said that this coming together of an elite technical institute and the company hits two targets at one go. He said that it will help the students to know about the metal in detail and secondly it helps to ensure that the future decision makers choose the best-suited material when it comes to building infrastructure.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee is about to institutionalize a three credit elective course on advanced carbon special steel and stainless steel for fourth year B.Tech and postgraduate students of the department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering.

Director of Stainless Steel, S Bhattacharya said that stainless steel and carbon steel are green and young metals which has a huge scope of usage in the near future. The sole motto of adopting such an amalgamating step is to make the graduating students aware of the stainless and carbon special steel technology.
