Japan’s Ambassador to India Appreciates IIM-Bangalore's Indo-Japanese Study Centre

  • The objective of building a dedicated Indo-Japanese centre at Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore is to strengthen India and Japan’s bilateral agreement, particularly educational and economic ties and to undertake joint research initiatives.

Ambassador of Japan to India, Kenji Hamamatsu and Counsellor General of Japan in Bangalore, Takayuki Kitagawa led a delegation to Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore on September 27, 2017, to understand the objectives and goals of the newly launched Indo-Japanese Centre and interacted with the faculty of IIM Bangalore.

Honourable Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi formally inaugurated the Indo-Japanese centre at IIM Bangalore on September 14, 2017.

The Ambassador hailed IIM Bangalore’s initiative quoting that the Indo-Japanese study centre is a timely and valuable initiative, particularly at a time when Indo-Japan relationship in investment and business is perhaps exceptional in history, guided by two strong leaders – Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Abe. Mr. Kenji extended his whole-hearted support to the Indo-Japanese study centre at IIM Bangalore.

Mr. Kenji further expressed that it was an honour to work on more collaborations with one of the premier institutes in India, IIM Bangalore a place where highly talented students trained to be global managers. He indicated that the major focus would be on people-to-people exchange programmes between India and Japan, particularly faculty teaching the Japanese language in Bangalore. The green city is a significant destination to Japan, as many Japanese companies are located in Bangalore.

Mr. Kenji further quoted that Bangalore is a global start-up city and a destination for intellectuals. Japan will be privileged to take up more joint research projects with IIM Bangalore and facilitate exchange programmes.
