In pursuit of improving its NAAC rating from grade ‘B’ to ‘A’, Lucknow University seems to be lagging behind. To score grade ‘A’ from NAAC, an institution requires a minimum of 3.01 CGPA and LU scored 2.76 CGPA in 2014. The re-accreditation of LU by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is due after April 05, 2019.
The Council rates the universities or colleges based upon 7 parameters out of which Lucknow University seems to be lagging behind in three parameters. Due to the lack of good infrastructure, students’ progress and best innovative practices, it seems hard for Lucknow University to notch it up in the rating.
For improving the education standards, Lucknow University updated its syllabus, introduced the semester wise system in all the courses covered under undergraduate degrees and has also established a data resource centre. Despite such initiatives, Lucknow University failed to attain a good score in the assessment process of NAAC earlier.

The infrastructure parameter includes facilities for students like WiFi, hostels, sufficient classrooms, smart classes and IT infrastructure. The University has not been able to provide WiFi facility for the last three years and lack classrooms for some departments like Ancient History etc.
The other NAAC assessment parameter that the university is failing to meet is innovation and best practices. LU does not have any new ideas or projects to score in this field.
Despite the shortcomings, the Vice-chancellor of Lucknow University Mr. S P Singh remains optimistic by saying that the university has brought major academic reforms. Due to the lack of funds, their hands were tied to meet the best results.
