A delight for the students of the Lucknow University as they will get a chance to see rare iron ornaments worn by the Agariya tribe, colourful hand-woven dresses of Tharu tribe and various other items used by tribals of Uttar Pradesh at the state's first tribal museum to come up at Department of Anthropology in LU.
According to the reports the museum will be made under the Centre of Excellence Scheme. Minister of higher education will support LU for the museum. LU has been given Rs 5 lakh for the ethnographic museum, which will also be a research centre for students.
Keya Pandey, a faculty member and in charge of the museum said that the museum is focusing specially on the tribes of Uttar Pradesh and will be the first of its kind. It will exhibit indigenous artefacts and rare tribal belongings collected from different tribal areas of Uttar Pradesh. It will be called the 'museum of ethnology', she added. A team from the department of anthropology has collected 72 items from 18 tribes of UP which will be on display.
The collection will include clothes and footwear collected from Tharus, Gonds, Agariya, Panika, Bhuia, Baiga and other tribes.
