The Magadh University (MU) senate on 10th April unanimously approved a total of Rs 744.9 crore as the deficit budget for the financial year 2016-17.
Against a total of Rs 118.8 crore, the budget stipulates a total expenditure of Rs. 863.8 crore. The meeting was chaired by the vice - chancellor of the Magadh Unversity, Prof Md Ishtiaq who presided over the meeting.
The meeting for deciding the budget happened in an environment of some chaos, as the student’s unions were trying to barge into the meeting venue alleging the meeting to be non-inclusive. The meeting didn’t include the representatives of the various student unions from Magadh University, across the state.
Magadh University (MU) was established in the year 1962 by Mr. Satyendra Narayan Sinha, the Education Minister of Bihar, then and an educationist. Mr. K. K. Dutta, who was also a historian, was the founder VC.
The university started functioning from 2nd March 1962 with 2 constituent colleges, 32 affiliated colleges and 7 PG departments. The university’s head-quarter is right now located in Bodh Gaya, Bihar. The funds from the budget would be utilized for various purposes and initiatives of administrative work of the college for the several constituent colleges and the affiliated colleges of the Magadh University.
