Manipur University (MU) celebrates its 45th foundation day on November 9, 2017, at the site of foundation stone inside the MU Campus. Earlier, Manipur University was known as Jawaharlal Nehru University Post Graduate Centre.The organizers of the event were Manipur Muslim Students Welfare Association, Pangal Political Forum (PPF) Manipur, and Manipur University.
Various renowned politicians and council members graced the event with their presence. The Chief Guest BM Yaima, Okram Joy, Chief Advisor AR Khan, Md Azizul Haque PPF Manipur president, K-Tomba ex-minister attended the event among others. They also paid floral tributes at the foundation stone.

MI Khan Manipur Spokesperson said that it was in 1972, Md Alimuddin laid down the foundation stone for the JNU Post Graduate Centre, which was later renamed as Manipur University on June 5, 1980, and on October 13, 2005, it became a central university. He also added that the main agenda of PPF Manipur is to address and raise issues faced by the people of Meitei Pangal Community and also enlightened the public that PPF Manipur has submitted a memorandum at the University to name a block or road of the MU after Md Alimudin.

However, Okram Joy expressed his anger at the University’s VC and the Registrar as they refrained from passing the order for the Foundation Day. He further said that the MU authorities should understand the importance of the Foundation Day and should themselves organize the event, since Md Alimudding worked very hard to establish the university as soon as Manipur attained statehood.
