Karnataka Education Minister D Sudhakar informed that there will be no fee hike for MBBS/BDS student from 2020-21 academic year. He informed about the same while his visit to Bowring and Curzon Medical Hospital in Bengaluru on 12th Feb 2020. He was there to take the portfolio. After taking the charge he informed that private medical colleges in Karnataka demand fee hike every year. However, there will be no fee hike for this year.
He further added that last year itself the government increased the fee hike by 15%. However, this year no demand related to fee hike will be entertained even if it comes from management or associations.
Meanwhile, Karnataka is to get four new medical colleges. The four new medical colleges in Karnataka will be established in districts such as Haveri, Yadagiri, Chikkamagaluru, and Chikkaballapur. The proposal regarding the same has been approved by the cabinet. Coming up of new medical colleges will provide the medical aspirants with more opportunities within the state as the number of seats will also increase
Coming back to no fee hike for MBBS/ BDS courses in Karnataka for the upcoming academic year reflects that the government is ensuring that medical education is affordable for the aspirants. This is due to the fact that one of the biggest concerns of medical aspirants that private medical colleges charge a very high fee.
