MHT-CET 2017: 3.89 Lakh Students Appear for the Exam

Maharastra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) has seen approx 3.89 lakh student registrations, the highest ever for this state-level examination. The exam was conducted on May 11 across 1,110 centres in the state.

Of this, 1.5 lakh candidates took the test for both pharmacy and engineering courses. The rest 1.44 lakh students have registered for a seat in the engineering course, higher from the number of applications received last year (1.3 lakh). On the other hand, 95,545 aspirants have applied for pharmacy.

The candidates who managed to clear this exam will be eligible for pursuing engineering and pharmacy courses in the colleges of Maharashtra.

The increment in the number of application forms received is due to the students who are not sure of doing well in the national level entrance exams like National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), revealed the officials of the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE).

Dayanand Meshram, the joint director of DTE explained that many students chose to appear in the CET exam over other national level tests since the syllabus of JEE is vast. Moreover, these exams have a negative marking component which the MHT-CET does not include. He added that the DTE received over 94,000 applications for 32,000 seats available. This hike itself shows that the demand for pursuing professional courses is high.

Although the last date of registrations for MHT-CET was 30th March but the online application process was re-opened for the several students who could not complete the registration process within the specified time period. Thus, the process was continued until 10th April and each candidate had to pay double the registration fee as the fine. MHT-CET witnessed around 2,000 more registrations during this period.
