MU Result Likely to be Delayed Further; Answer Sheets Not Linked to Students

The Mumbai University (MU) is probably facing the worst session this year with delayed results and pressure from the government. The uproar due to the delay and students demanding results, MU has been struggling to finish the evaluation of answer sheets quickly. To add on to the troubles, the university is now facing a hard time in linking answer sheets to students.

MU has finished evaluating 84% of the answer sheets, however, the university is taking more than usual to link the answer sheets to students using roll numbers, bar codes and seat numbers. According to sources, the result of as few as 10% of the students has been declared due to the problem faced in linking answer sheets to students.

One of the main reason behind this problem is the involvement of two separate agencies hired to sort answer sheets to the corresponding roll numbers of students. These two agencies were hired to ensure that the answer sheets are not tampered with.

One of these agencies is supposed to scan the first page of the answer sheet and assign a common barcode to all sheets. Whereas, the other is supposed to scan the rest of the pages. This process creates two bar codes for every answer sheet, treating the first page and the rest of the pages as different booklets.

The process of two bar codes has been further complicated by students who have filled in their seat numbers and other information incorrectly. This has doubled the linking process, further delaying the announcement of results.

An official of MU added that the students whose answer sheets could not be linked will be kept safe and the result of these students will be declared later. The university also informed that it has hired Former Examination Controller Dinesh Bonde to sort out the issues.

Due to the confusion regarding linking of answer sheets, the evaluation process has slowed down. Teachers who evaluated more than 1 lakh copies per day last week were only able to evaluate 26,000 copies.

4.77 lakh final year students appeared for MU exams this year and the results for only 47,693 students have been declared. However, the officials of MU maintain that with the cooperation of teachers and university staff, the results will be announced soon.
