Nagaland Governor Directs Educational Institutes to Focus on Skill Development

  • Governor of Nagaland, P.B. Acharya addressed a training programme on 'Skill Development and Entrepreneurship' organised by Department of English at Nagaland University.
  • He urged the universities to encourage students to learn new skills.
Nagaland Governor Directs Educational Institutes to Focus on Skill Development

Mr. P B Acharya, Governor of Nagaland urged the universities and educational institutes across the state to focus on skill development and entrepreneurship. According to him, educational institutes and the university must not merely confine themselves to imparting academic knowledge but also focus on developing necessary and helpful skills in the students. The universities must encourage the students to get into entrepreneurship.

Mr. Acharya was addressing the training programme organised by the Department of English at Nagaland University. The main theme of the training programme was ‘Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’, during which the honourable Governor of Nagaland pointed that the state is bestowed with numerous natural resources that are yet to be explored.

He expressed his concern about the low availability of jobs in Nagaland, which is a major reason for educated youth to move beyond and work for the development of other states. He assured that adequate numbers of job opportunities will be provided to the educated youth so that the people who have been working in other states will return and work for the upliftment of Nagaland.

Further, Mr. Acharya pointed that if the varsities impart skill education, students will become capable of transforming the natural resources into wealth. Even though conventional degrees impart exceptional knowledge to students, they do not develop employability skills in them. Therefore, skill development must be imparted on priority in universities, he added.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, officials from various government departments and professionals from industry & academia also attended the training programme.
