Besides JEE Main and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the NTA (National Testing Agency) is likely to conduct JEE Advanced exam that is conducted by IITs at present. The Ministry of Human Resource and Development has written to all the IITs in this regard and the final decision is yet to be taken. Further, the HRD Ministry has written to IIMs regarding the possibility of conducting CAT exam through NTA. The premier technical and management institutes have to take a call in this regard.
Earlier, the Union Cabinet had decided that NTA would hold the exams that are being conducted by CBSE or the Central Board of Secondary Education. Regarding JEE Advanced exam, IITs have complete freedom to decide whether to entrust the responsibility to NTA or not. According to sources, IITs are unlikely to entrust the responsibility of preparing the question paper to NTA. In the past, IITs had not agreed to entrust the responsibility of conducting JEE exam to other agencies as well.
Director of one of the top IITs revealed that they would hold discussions on the matter and convey their decision to the HRD Ministry by December 15, 2017. National Testing Agency is yet to become operational and IITs are not sure about handing over the charge to the agency.
The government will register NTA as a society under the Societies Registration Act (1860). IIMs, IITs, IISERs and centrally funded educational institutes will be the joint owners of the organisation. Accumulating necessary infrastructure to make NTA operational is underway. The tests that will be conducted by NTA will be online, standardised and duly scrutinised.
