NEET-PG: Counselling for PG Medical Courses in Tamil Nadu Begins

NEET-PG: Counselling for PG Medical Courses in Tamil Nadu Begins

After sorting out all the legal hurdles, the single window NEET-based counselling for PG medical and dental courses in Tamil Nadu has commenced on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

On Day 1, the admission process took place for the persons with physical disability. A total number of 22 candidates applied for the admission to PG medical and dental courses under ‘orthopedically physically disabled candidates’. These candidates took part in the medical examination conducted by the admission authority on May 19, 2018. For these candidates, medical board will approve the admissions soon.

This year, 15 government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu are offering 864 PG medical degree and diploma seats. Earlier, the state government had surrendered 50% of PG medical and dental seats for the admission through All India Quota (AIQ) by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

DGHS conducted two rounds of counselling process under AIQ. Finally, 117 seats that were vacant under AIQ were returned back to the state government. At present, there are 981 PG medical and dental seats in government medical colleges across Tamil Nadu.

On the other hand, self-financing/ private medical institutions affiliated to MGR Medical University surrendered 172 seats for admission through government quota. Christian Medical College, Vellore has also decided to surrender medical seats to the government by May 21, 2018.

A total number of 81 seats are available under management quota and the Selection Committee will take the responsibility of filling those seats as per MCI guidelines.
