Japanese Language Course to be Started in North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) from July

NEHU VC is hopeful of providing employment opportunities to students after converting the programme into a Diploma programme. JICA is currently funding infrastructure development projects in six out of the "Seven Sister States".  

NEHU starts Japanese Language course

A short-term Japanese Language course will be introduced at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) from the month of July 2020. The Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA will fund this short-term language course in NEHU. The Vice-Chancellor of NEHU said that after a while, the short-term Japanese Language programme will be converted into a Diploma course. He believes that once the process of transitioning the short-term programme to the diploma programme is complete, it will help the students to find employment opportunities in various Japan-related programmes across the country. The VC also added that the programme will strengthen the bilateral ties between Indian and Japan.

According to Professor S K Srivastava, JICA will bear all the expenses of the programme whereas NEHU will look after the accommodation facet of it. He also added that a team of 22 students from the North Eastern Hill University have been chosen who will visit Japan between 01st and 09th February. These students will be a part of the Cultural Exchange Programme between the two nations.

Mr B Panda, Dean of NEHU School of Economics and Management added that a team of 16 students had last year visited the “Land of Rising Sun”. The team comprised of students from all the North Eastern states. In the wake of the recent Coronavirus outbreak in China, the students have been advised to carry sanitisers and masks with them by the authorities of NEHU.

Japan International Cooperation Agency is currently funding the construction of a 1000 kilometres road along with various other infrastructure development projects in the states of Nagaland, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya.
