Since the National Institutional Ranking Framework or NIRF India Rankings 2017 have been declared by the HRD Ministry, it has been in the news.
Interestingly, it has been noted that not even a single college from the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) has made it to the top 100 college list. Even the almost century old premier university of the state - Lucknow University - has not been able to make a mark in the rankings this year.

The state of Uttar Pradesh has more than 5,600 colleges. Out of these 138 are government aided institutes while about 330 are unaided ones.
Some reasons behind poor rankings of UP colleges:
- Lack of teaching staff leading to poor teacher-taught ratio
- Poor funding from the central government
- Hiring and firing of various part-time teachers
- Probability of some institutes not participating in the rankings this year

On the other hand, some experts were of the opinion that the rankings were skewed because some prominent institutes that found a place in the NIRF India Rankings 2017 in other categories, did not make it to the Top 100 College List.
