Odisha Govt. has signed a pact with Sightsavers to strengthen education for visually impaired students in the state. The initiative will also provide technical support to the schools for disability management.
The Odisha government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sightsavers to strengthen the education for blind and low vision students. The MoU was signed by the Odisha Primary Education Programme Authority (OPEPA) with the Sightsavers on the behalf of Department of School and Mass Education.
The tie-up with Sightsavers will provide technical support to OPEPA to strengthen and streamline mainstream education for the low vision and blind children studying in public schools across the Odisha state.
Sightsavers will offer OPEPA support in the following areas:
- Technical support in disability management
- Designing curriculum
- Skill development of the visually impaired children
- Building resources and improving quality of education
- Demonstrating application of information and communication technology, disabled friendly teaching-learning materials, low vision devices and others.

The initiative will help more than 25,000 visually impaired students and will also focus on building a healthy learning environment for 1.3 lakh students with special needs in general schools of Odisha.

Sightsavers is an international organisation which aims to promote equality for visually impaired people and those with other disabilities. The headquarters of the Sightsavers is in the United Kingdom with branches in countries such as India, Sweden, Italy, Norway, USA and UAE.
