Odisha Govt. to Set Up World Class Centre of Excellence at IIT Bhubaneswar

  • With the support of the state govt. and other fund providers, IIT Bhubaneswar will establish a Centre of Virtual and Augmented Reality.
  • The centre would comprise incubation facility, laboratories and skill development courses for aspiring candidates. 
Odisha Govt. to Set Up World Class Centre of Excellence at IIT Bhubaneswar

During the second start-up council meeting, the state government of Odisha has decided to extend its support for setting up world-class Centre of Excellence in Research and Entrepreneurship Park of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar. Odisha's start-up initiative administered by the state government has recognised over 130 start-up ventures.

A meeting regarding the same was held under the Chairmanship of Mr. A P Padhi (Chief Secretary). With an objective to promote innovative entrepreneurship in Odisha, the Chief Secretary called for more focused and outcome-oriented activities.

Giving details about Centre of Excellence at IIT Bhubaneswar, the Chief Secretary said that the world-class centre would be a Centre of Virtual and Augmented Reality. The process of setting up this centre was initiated with the help of a significant contribution of Rs. 2.5 crore made by Susmitha Bagchi. The state government of Odisha also provided funds worth Rs. 2.5 crore for setting up the centre.

Director General of STPI (Software Technology Park of India), Mr. Omkar Rai assured his support to the state government in setting up the world-class Centre of Excellence. He further revealed that STPI would grant Rs. 2.5 crore for establishing the centre.

The world-class Centre of Excellence at IIT Bhubaneswar will have an excellent incubation facility, focused courses (skill development and educational) and laboratories.

During the meeting, the officials nominated KIIT, IIT Madras, Centurion University and XIMB for evaluating the start-up proposals and sponsoring the same to the Council. So far, 18 innovative entrepreneurial ventures have been successful in getting financial assistance from the Council. Another two approvals have been made during the meeting, raising the total number of start-ups funded by the council to 20.
