On Sunday, 24th August, a circular had been issued by the University of Patna Administrative Council. The circular stated that the teachers on Patna University from now receive their salaries as per the newly revised pay scale of UGC (University Grants Council). However, the proposal of revised pay scale came on 1st January 2016. The university took more than 3 and a half years for implementation of the same.
The newly circulated notification has the name of 388 teachers working under the University of Patna to receive revised salaries effective from 1st January 2016. However, as many as 92 teachers have retired after the mentioned date. The notification further said that the arrears of the newly revised salary from the proposed date will only be paid when the state government will agree to grant necessary funds to the university. Sources suggest that the state government has already received 50% revised scale fund differences and to disburse the amount soon.
In 18th February 2019, the state cabinet of Bihar decided to pay the university teachers as per the UGC’s revised rates as applicable from 2016. Another decision came from the cabinet to revise the pension scale of teaching and non-teaching staffs from the same date. But according to some sources, Patna University did not take proper steps to revise the pension of teachers.
