Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) which offer MD/DM course may conduct online entrance test for after Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry from the academic year 2017. It will be the second research and medical institute to conduct the test online. This is the last time when admissions for 2016 are going to be paper based and scheduled to be held on December 20.
The step has been taken to ensure transparency. The test will be similar to entrance test and will take few years to get finalized. The online application form and payment of the test has already started by PGI.
The administration has also taken some strict measures where every student is frisked, jammers were installed and nobody allowed to even carry personal pens. After strict measures, no case of cheating or copying has been reported. However, the administration is looking forward to online tests to ensure higher transparency and convenience to candidates who, earlier, had to travel to the city for giving the examination.
In 2012, according to a media report, CBI had exposed massive cheating racket where candidates used hi-tech gadgets for mass copying. CBI had recovered laptops, micro-earphones, sophisticated handsets, Bluetooth devices, button-hole cameras, tablet computers. The candidates involved in the scam used to get answers from their co-members from a hostel few kilometres away from examination centre through ear-phones also.
