Ph.D. Enrollments in India has witnessed a drastic rise in the last six years. Tamil Nadu bagged the top spot with a maximum number of Ph.D. enrolments.
Universities and other higher learning institutes across the country are giving more emphasis to research. On the other hand, the central government is also encouraging Indian universities to improve research output. According to a recent survey, some of the major states bagged top spots in terms of the number of Ph.D. enrolments. While Tamil Nadu bagged the top spot in Ph.D. enrolments, Telangana was placed in the last with poor Ph.D. enrolments.

Most of the students prefer to choose a Ph.D. in Science stream. At present, almost 41,844 students are enrolled in Ph.D. courses in Science stream. Engineering stream also attracted maximum Ph.D. enrolments (38,714). The top engineering branch with maximum Ph.D. enrolments is Mechanical Engineering followed by Civil Engineering.
In all, Ph.D. courses in India received good attention from students due to the constant efforts of the central government to improve the research output of Indian higher learning institutes.
