Mr. Pradeep Negi, a physically challenged teacher from Uttarakhand has caught the attention of many after being shortlisted for $1 million Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2018. He bagged a spot among the list of top 50 contenders for the award. Mr. Negi teaches computer science, social science and economics at Government Inter College, located at BHEL Ranipur. With utmost competition, Mr. Negi managed to be shortlisted for the award.
Varkey Foundation received over 30,000 nominations and applications from 173 countries for the Global Teacher Prize 2018.
Expressing his views on the achievement, Mr. Negi revealed that it is a proud moment to be in the top 50 teachers and it has motivated the teachers in his community. Being handicapped, he never gave up and strived hard to achieve success. He developed a lot of innovative work in Information & Communication Technology (ICT), particularly for poor children. Mr. Negi was happy that his work has been recognised.

Mr. Negi was shortlisted for his fighting spirit. He emphasised the use of new technology tools with an objective to make social subjects and economics compelling to students. He trained 1,200 teachers in Uttaranchal.
Congratulating Mr. Negi on his achievement, Founder of Varkey Foundation, Mr. Sunny Varkey hoped that the success story of Mr. Negi would inspire those who are planning to enter the teaching profession. There are many teachers across the globe who have been playing a vital role in innovating new methods of education. The Global Teacher Prize recognises the outstanding contribution of teachers in the field of education, he highlighted.

Among the 50 shortlisted teachers, the award committee will finalise 10 teachers for Global Teacher Prize 2018. The results will be announced in February 2018. The award ceremony will take place at Global Education and Skills Forum, Dubai on March 18, 2018.
