President of India has appointed Professor Vinod Kumar Jain as the new Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University. He will serve as VC for the period of five years or until the attainment of the age of 70 years.
Professor Vinod Kumar was a former professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He was a B.Sc graduate from Agra University and M.Sc graduate from Aligarh Muslim University. Sussex University (UK) conferred D.Phil to Professor Vinod Kumar in 1982. He took UG Laboratory Teaching at Sussex University 1977 to 1981.
Before becoming a professor, Vinod Kumar Jain was a scientist at IIT Delhi Department of Physics from 1983 to 1985.
In 1985, Professor Vinod Kumar joined as Associate Professor at Department of Social Sciences, JNU. He taught M.Phil and M.Sc students for over 25 years.
Professor Vinod Kumar Jain was also a member of many academic and statutory bodies, such as: -
- Public Service Commission of Uttar Pradesh
- Public Service Commission of Himachal Pradesh
- Union Public Service Commission
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research
- University Grants Commission
As a member of the panel of experts, Professor Vinod made valuable contributions for the enrichment of above academic and statutory bodies. He has a broad experience in academics, teaching, curriculum framing and decision-making. Tezpur University is expected to witness more focused research and development activities in the field of science with the appointment of new VC.
