A two-day seminar on sericulture development in temperate region– problems and prospects organized by Central Silk Board, Pampore concluded
VC, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Prof A R Trag, was the chief guest. Commissioner Secretary Agriculture Production Muhammad Ashraf Bukhari and Director SDD J&K Dr Malik Farooq were the guests of honor on the occasion.
Officers, delegates, scientists from CSB, SUKAST-K, TSRI and SDD participated and presented research findings in the seminar, an official statement said.
New improved Mulberry variety PPR-1 developed by CSR&TI Pampore was released for temperate region by Prof Trag.
“The main attributes of the new variety are high rooting ability through stem cuttings, early sprouting of winter buds and enhanced leaf yield,” said a spokesperson of CSB
“A book comprising over 120 research papers besides two handouts on ‘Green Manuring’ and new mulberry variety ‘PPR-1’ were released during the event,” he added.
