Steps Taken to Ease ‘On Screen Assessment’: Mumbai University to Bombay HC

  • Mumbai University has taken steps to ease the 'On Screen Assessment' system for the evaluation of winter semester exams.
  • The Bombay HC has been informed regarding the same and teams have been formed to assist teachers.
Steps Taken to Ease ‘On Screen Assessment’: Mumbai University to Bombay HC

Informing the Bombay High Court, the authorities of the University of Mumbai have clarified that they had taken all the necessary measures to make sure that technical glitches encountered with the introduction of ‘On Screen Assessment’ during the summer semester would not be repeated during the winter semester 2017. All the technical glitches were taken care of and streamlined. The authorities of Mumbai University filed an affidavit to Bombay HC in this regard.

Advocate, representing the Mumbai University in Bombay HC stated that various petitions over the ‘On Screen Assessment’ system had been sorted out. The court pointed that the varsity had failed miserably in implementing the ‘On Screen Assessment’ without any technical glitches. Finally, Mumbai University assured that they would not fail again.

The varsity further informed that they would continue with the same service provider. For the smooth conduct of ‘On Screen Assessment’, the authorities of MU have prepared a five-minute tutorial video explaining the on-screen marking system. All the teachers should view the video before carrying out the assessment. The first answer booklet will be provided to teachers only after viewing the five-minute tutorial video. Through all these measures, the varsity will avoid technical difficulties, and carry out the evaluation process in a smooth manner.

The authorities of MU further informed HC that a technical team comprising of eight members would be responsible for providing software support for the system. The team will provide assistance at the centres to help the teachers regarding the evaluation.

The court stated that the principal secretary of higher education should file a reply in this matter by November 29, 2017.
