Students of Savitribai Phule University Struggle to get Transcripts
Several students graduated from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) are yet to get their transcripts due to the delay of exam department in the issuance of transcripts as the university is in need of a software required for that.
A transcript of university shows the performance of students for a particular course at a glance. The document is essential for the students who wish to pursue higher education abroad. So far the exam department has received over 2,000 applications in the last two months. Now the future of these students hangs in balance.
As per the rules, if students apply for the transcript they must receive the document within two months of time. Now students have complained that this time, the University is taking too much of time in the issuance of the transcripts and those who have got the transcript only after repeated visits to the exam department.
Every day the students' facilitation center receives around 80 applications for transcripts, besides that they have already a backlog of 2,500 applications.
While the Vice-chancellor of the University said that the backlog will be cleared on a priority basis and for that additional staff members have been engaged and they will ensure that the transcripts are issued.
At the same time university students' association has demanded to speed up the process and want a permanent solution to the problem.
The phenomenon has happened not only this year. Students have to face the problem every year and they have to stage a protest to get the pending transcripts. The officials never bothered to resolve the problems permanently. They show the excuse of staff shortage. They only wake up when students start to make a noise. Students applying for the foreign university have to request the universities for more time for the submission.
Now the University is planning to appoint some trainee students to cooperate the exam department in the process of issuing transcripts. The University has digitized the mark sheets for the past few years and are expected to resolve the problem within a short span of time with extra manpower.
