Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai is all set to launch a new Certificate course for teachers, especially those who belong to the rural parts of the country, beginning next academic year. The course will be aimed at improving the teaching skills of the candidates.
Tata Trust’s Integrated approach to Technology in Education (ITE) initiative will be conducting the programme. This initiative focuses on providing technology-based framework for the education of the underprivileged.
The teachers who will enrol for the programme will be conferred with certificates accredited by TISS.
With the approval of the course in place, the curriculum for the same is currently being planned and will soon be proposed to the academic council, revealed a Senior Programme Officer of ITE.
ITE began as a pilot project in Murshidabad in the year 2012. At present, about 17,000 students and 500 teachers are enrolled in the same. The project aims at using technology and innovative methods of teaching in order to promote project-based learning. Following a similar pattern, the course at TISS will focus on making teachers empathetic towards the students.
The official also mentioned that education-industry partnerships in the area of education is a smart way of developing and improving infrastructure loopholes in the system.
ITE has also partnered with the CSR or the Corporate Social Responsibility divisions of many companies as well as Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
