Swagat Academy Of Medical Sciences organized the first-ever training for endoscopy technicians at the institute campus on May 1. The training program witnessed leading surgeons and gastroenterologists from various hospitals of Guwahati, who spoke on various aspects of endoscopy . This included topics on maintenance, cleaning and sterilization of equipment and also on all-risk reduction strategy. Many professors and students from the academy also participated in the training programme. Nearly 50 technicians attended the programme.
Swagat Academy Of Medical Sciences was established on the 16th June 2000 to promote the art of science of Minimal Access Surgery and provide the best endosurgical treatment facility to the people of the region and the country.
Prof Subhash Khanna, the Dean of the Academy, elaborated on the need and significance of such training. He went on to say that the endoscopy technicians here are trained mostly by observing, since there is no formal training programme for them, so they need a regular update of the ever-changing equipment and instruments. He said that the training was an attempt to update the technicians from various hospitals in Guwahati and the region as a whole.
