The University Grant Commission (UGC) of India has recently issued a notice to deemed universities, colleges, and other higher educations institutions asking them to update recruitment details about faculty vacancies. The notice was issued to these universities within a period of 31st July 2019 to 7th August 2019.
The official notification of UGC states that all the universities and their affiliated colleges are requested to upload the details regarding the faculty vacancies. The last date to upload the details is 20th September 2019.
This step was taken in order to resolve the scarcity of quality teaching faculty in several Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). The letter issued to the Vice-Chancellors of various institutes stated that shortage of quality teaching faculty in Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) is one of the major concerns and has to be addressed immediately to improve the level of higher education provided in the country.
UGC has also released certain guidelines which should be followed by these institutions, one of which says to fill up the vacant faculty posts with candidates who are eligible and competent enough.

This will also create a scope for the candidates who aspire to pursue teaching as their profession. The guidelines also mentioned that these Higher Educational Institutes should ensure that all the details regarding the vacancy of posts, reservations should be posted on their respective online portals. The Human Resource Development Ministry (HRD) will be responsible for monitoring the filling up of vacancies. Completion of the entire process of hiring has to be done within a period of six months.
