A big relief for research scholars!!
The raised fellowship announcement was made in the year 2014 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development but it has been materialized yet. This made the students to complain at various forums. They even made tweets on the Twitter page of HRD Minister Smriti Irani. Getting alarmed by the tweets she held meeting with the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) & the Ministry of Finance.
- In December 2014 the fellowship amount was raised from Rs.8000 to 12,400 for M. Tech students
- For Ph. D scholars the amount was raised from Rs.12,500 to 25000
- The PG scholarship for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) qualified students was raised from Rs.8000 to 12,400
The fellowships are given to the scholars to help them for their various expenses like accommodation, books & the their research requirements.UGC increased the fellowship amount so that the students get encouragement to undertake research. But because of some resource and fund problems the revised amount could not be released.
After the meeting the officials came up with the decision that the raised fellowship amount will be released within one week. UGC has released a official notification regarding this on their official website.
