Visitor’s Best University Award Conferred on Tezpur University
Scripting history not only for itself but also for Assam and the North-East India, Tezpur University (TU) bagged the Visitor’s “Best University” award 2016.
In an impressive function organized in the Rashtrapati Bhawan on the evening of March 14, 2016, the award was presented to the Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. Mihir K. Chaudhuri by the Hon’ble President Shri Pranab Mukherjee who is also the Visitor of TU, in the presence of Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof. Ved Prakash, Jury Members, Vice Chancellors, Directors of IIMs, IITs, NITs and a host of dignitaries.
Congratulating Tezpur University, the Hon’ble President attributed the achievement to the hard works of the students, faculty and non-teaching staff of the University led by its Vice Chancellor. “I have seen the development at Tezpur University myself”, he apprised the audience. In her address, the Hon’ble HRD Minister Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani congratulated the Tezpur University community for achieving such a feat in a remarkably short time and hoped that it would go a long way in encouraging other institutions.
In the other categories, the Visitor’s Award for Innovation was presented to Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, while the Molecular Parasitology Group of the same university received the Visitor’s Award for Research. After receiving the Best University award on behalf of Tezpur University, Vice Chancellor Prof. Mihir K. Chaudhuri thanked the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble HRD minister, UGC Chairman and the jury members for reposing faith in a university located in a remote part of the country. Congratulating the students, faculty and non-teaching staff of the University, he said that the feat would encourage the TU community to do greater works. He also thanked all individuals and offices directly or indirectly connected to the development of Tezpur University for their support.
