M.Tech in Defence Technology Programme Launched by AICTE and DRDO
The M.Tech in Defence Technology programme launched by AICTE and DRDO has six specialized streams - Communication Systems & Sensors, Naval Technology, Directed Energy Technology, Aero Technology, Combat Technology and High Energy Materials Technology.
The All India Council for Technical Education and Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have launched an M.Tech degree programme in Defense Technology to convey practical and theoretical ability, knowledge and aptitude in many areas of defence technology. The programme was launched on the 08th of July by the AICTE Chairman Dr Anil D Sahasrabudhe, DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy and the Secretary Department of Defence R&D.
All the AICTE-affiliated universities or institutions, including the private engineering colleges , IITs , NITs etc can offer the M.Tech in Defense Technology programme in both the online and offline formats. All the support required by the institutions to conduct the programme will be offered by the Institute of Defence Scientists and Technologists (IDST). The M.Tech programme comprises six specialized streams namely - Communication Systems & Sensors, Naval Technology, Directed Energy Technology, Aero Technology, Combat Technology and High Energy Materials Technology.

The DRDO laboratories, Defence PSUs and industries can be used by the students to conduct their main thesis work.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh welcomed the AICTE, DRDO and the industry on the launch of a postgraduate degree programme in defence technology. He stated that the programme will contribute to the realisation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat”.

Earlier, the AICTE granted permission to the engineering colleges to offer engineering degrees in regional languages . Regional languages like Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi and Hindi have been chosen in the first phase of this programme. This will be implemented from the new academic year onwards. The task of creating online and offline content post-translation is already underway, said AICTE.
