With an objective to reduce the timeline of FYJC admission process and encourage merit-based admissions, the School Education Department of Maharashtra has scrapped the ‘Zero’ round for Bifocal courses and First Come First Serve (FCFS) round. Admission to bifocal courses has been included along with other rounds of the admission process. Merit is the sole criteria for bifocal courses this year.

What is FCFS Round in FYJC?

FCFS round takes place after the conclusion of general rounds of the admission process. Through this round, students can take admission in popular colleges subject to the availability of vacant seats. Merit is not the criteria for such admissions and the candidates can get admission on the first-come-first-serve basis.

Director of Secondary and Higher Education, Dinkar Patil revealed that FCFS round turned out to be a bane for students with no internet access. Students with quick internet access used to grab admission despite lower marks in Class 10th. Therefore, the department has decided to give preference for merit and scrapped FCFS.

Changes in FYJC Admission Process 2020

Scrapping of FCFS Round: Instead of FCFS round, special rounds will be conducted to fill the vacant seats. The seat allotment will be done on the basis of marks scored by the candidates.

The Bifocal round allows students to choose the vocational courses based on the options available in each stream.

With the scrapping of Zero and FCFS rounds, FYJC admission procedure can be shortened by at least 15 days so that the colleges can be re-opened soon after the announcement of seat allotment results.

Reduction of SEBC Reservation: This year, SEBC category students will have 12% reservation instead of 16% in FYJC admissions. The decision has been taken as per Bombay HC’s order.

50% Reservation for Mumbai and Pune Pass outs: Another change that has been introduced in FYJC admission process 2020 is that students passing out from Mumbai and Pune municipal schools will have 50% reservation in Junior Colleges run by Mumbai and Pune municipal corporations.

This year, the entire admission process of FYJC will be online. The documents must be uploaded on the official website and the same are verified digitally.
